The Rady School of Management is thrilled and honored to announce biotechnology industry legend Bill Rastetter as the speaker for the Stanley Foster Symposium on May 8th, 2023 at 7pm. Rastetter perfectly embodies the Rady brand of “Business is a Science” as the former CEO for IDEC Pharmaceuticals and co-inventor of the first monoclonal antibody to be approved by the FDA for cancer therapy. He currently serves as an advisor to Illumina and as chair of Neurocrine Biosciences and Fate Therapeutics.
Learn About the History of the San Diego Biotech Industry
As a biotech hall of famer and winner of multiple Entrepreneur of the Year awards, Rastetter will share fascinating stories of his life and accomplishments as he walks us through the history of the biotechnology industry in our region.
Rastetter, who received his undergraduate degree from MIT and graduate degrees from Harvard, is a scientist, entrepreneur and investor. He is also an inspirational supporter and mentor for underrepresented populations, and is the co-founder of San Diego Squared, a non-profit organization that works to increase diversity in STEM careers, a cause about which he is very passionate.
About the Stanley Foster Symposium

The symposium was established by his wife, Pauline Foster, who was a community philanthropist, long-time supporter of UC San Diego, and a founding donor to the Rady School of Management.
