Mar 1, 2018–Mar 1, 2018 from 4:00pm–5:30pm
The African American Studies Program highlights the Legacy of Language as a tool to speak the truths of Black women through spoken word poetry and hip-hop music. Alyesha Wise (poet and teaching artist) and Miki Vale (local hip-hop artist and activist) illustrate how Black women continue to use language as a vehicle for challenging power, stereotypes, and marginalization. Alyesha Wise and Miki Vale inspire audiences to engage with language as constructions of self-reflection, political activism, cultural awareness, and love.
