The Economic Effects of Sending Disadvantaged Kids to High Income Schools

The Economic Effects of Sending Disadvantaged Kids to High Income Schools

Please join us for a virtual paper discussion with author Kartik Srivastava of Harvard University and discussant Carolina Lopez of the World Bank.

Srivastava will discuss his research into how lottery systems can help historically disadvantaged communities in India by allowing students from lower socio-economic statuses to rub shoulders with wealthier students they might not otherwise have come into contact with. Along with Carolina Lopez of the World Bank, Srivastava will talk about how, after observing the outcomes of students in the lottery program over more than a decade, he saw how it impacted students’ social networks, likelihood of attending university and participation in the workforce.
