Film projection fits into a long tradition of shadow and lantern shows. The study of noises, music and voices accompanying films before 1914 help understand the exact environment the audience encountered when it went “to the movies” at that time. This study requires us to “think film” differently. It makes us understand the real perception of a cinematographic show of the Belle Époque.
