May 29, 2025–May 29, 2025 from 4:00pm–5:00pm
Joseph Torigian will tell the story of Xi Zhongxun, a man who spent his entire life struggling to balance his own feelings with the demands of the Chinese Communist Party but who, despite a widespread reputation as one of China’s most humane and liberal figures, nonetheless always put the Party’s interests first. Through the eyes of Xi Jinping’s father, Torigian reveals the extraordinary organizational, ideological and coercive power of the Party — and its cost.
Speaker:
Joseph Torigian, associate professor, American University School of International Service
Moderator:
