U.S.-China Competition and Co-existence

U.S.-China Competition and Co-existence

Given the rapid changes in U.S.-China relations, the question of how to preserve a stable relationship between the two nations while also competing with each other has never been more urgent. A panel of Chinese and American experts will examine how historical examples such as the Cold War can illuminate the U.S.-China dynamics of competition in the age of globalization and economic interdependence. Speakers:

  • Avery Goldstein, David M. Knott Professor of Global Politics and International Relations, University of Pennsylvania
  • Jing Huang, Dean of Institute of International and Regional Studies, Beijing Language and Culture University
  • David M. Lampton, Oksenberg-Rohlen Fellow, Shorenstein APARC, Stanford University
  • Xinbo Wu, Professor and Director, Center for American Studies, Fudan University
  • Moderator: Susan Shirk, Chair, 21st Century China Center, UC San Diego School of Global Policy & Strategy
The event will start with a talk at 3:30 p.m., followed by a reception at 5 p.m. Cosponsored by the Fudan-UC Center on Contemporary China.
