The Rise of the Creative Class Revisited An evening with world leading urbanist Richard Florida Director, Martin Prosperity Institute at the University of Toronto, Global Research Professor, New York University and Co-Founder and Senior Editor, The Atlantic City Lab San Diego is at an inflection point as it charts a course to develop an inclusive innovation economy – one that promotes not only new technologies but also new opportunities for all segments of the community. While the Torrey Pines Mesa has driven much of the region’s science and technology research and economic growth, demographic shifts and the increasing significance of software to all industries are highlighting the urban core as an important new hub for San Diego’s innovation sector. Richard Florida, world renowned urbanist and author of several best sellers including “The Rise of the Creative Class,” will offer his insights on the opportunities and challenges facing cities around the globe and how their experiences can inform San Diego’s urban economic development strategy as it grapples with the convergence of technology, demography and geography. For anyone who cares about innovation and equity, this is a can’t-miss program that will provide new perspectives on how cities must embrace inclusive economic development strategies to maintain their competitive edge.
