Undergraduate Summer Research Conference

Undergraduate Summer Research Conference

Undergraduate students conducting faculty-mentored research at a San Diego County institution of higher learning will have the opportunity to present their findings this summer to peers, professors and the general public at the annual Summer Research Conference held Aug. 16–17. The conference is free and open to the public. This year’s event will feature more than 350 undergraduates conducting mentored research at UC San Diego and other area colleges and universities. Each student will give a 15-minute presentation of their results as part of one of 52 thematically organized panels. Panel topics include bioengineering and materials science, women’s health, development and learning, political science, health disparities and demographics, as well as subjects in the arts and humanities subjects. Hosted by UC San Diego Academic Enrichment Programs, a unit within Student Affairs’ Student Retention and Success, the annual conference is designed to help students strengthen their presentation skills and form networks with other scholars in their field. Participating students are paired with faculty mentors and research opportunities through UC San Diego’s enrichment initiatives such as the McNair Program—a year-long federal outreach program funded by the U.S. Department of Education that prepares first-generation, low-income and underrepresented students for doctoral study.
