Fulbright Distinguished Chair, Dr. Pedro Hallal will compare the burden of Covid-19 in Brazil with that observed in the rest of the world and the impact of scientific denialism on the burden of Covid-19. The talk will also cover the three sources of inequalities observed in epidemiological studies about Covid-19 in Brazil: geographical, ethnic and socioeconomic and he will present data from the largest epidemiological study on Covid-19 taking place in Brazil.
Pedro Hallal works at the Federal University of Pelotas, in South Brazil. He served as the President of the University from 2017 to 2020. His primary area of research is physical activity and health. He was the leader of the 2012 Lancet Physical Activity Series and was also part of the steering committee of the 2016 and 2021 series. From 2020 onwards, Dr Hallal started working on Covid-19, leading the largest epidemiological study on Covid-19 in Brazil. Dr. Hallal is currently holding a Visiting Scholar Fulbright appointment at UC San Diego.
