May 10, 2017–May 10, 2017 from 7:00pm–10:00pm
For its 2017 chamber opera, kallisti presents a double bill of Francis Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine, featuring soprano Hillary Jean Young, and selections from American minimalist composer Tom Johnson’sShaggy Dog Operas. Poulenc’s 1958 monodrama for solo soprano, with its psychological complexity, is juxtaposed with Johnson’s lighthearted and rarely heard works, re-imagined within the setting of a 2017 dorm room. The performance will feature current Department of Music graduate students and kallisti members Young, Kirsten Ashley Wiest, Lauren Jones,Jonathan Nussman and pianist Kyle Adam Blair. Artistic Director Susan Narucki and Celeste Oram will co-direct La Voix Humaine, while Nussman will direct performances of Johnson’s material. The performance will be repeated on Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13, both at 7 p.m.
