There has been a growing concern about the role of identity narratives in driving the spread of misinformation on social media, putting at risk informed citizenship. In this talk, Dr. Kaiping Chen will share her works on how the use of identity language affects the diffusion and the discourse of conspiracy and counter-narratives during the COVID-19 pandemic on Weibo. She will also discuss about the implication of this identity-reinforced communication for misinformation correction and public understanding of other social groups.
