Wilfrido Terrazas - Ítaca CD Release Panel
Ítaca is flutist and UC San Diego Assistant Professor of Music Wilfrido Terrazas' 6th solo album, and the first one completely dedicated to his solo flute compositions. It was released in December 2020 on the Mexico City-based independent label Cero Records, which is known for its advocacy of Mexican experimental and new music. Ítaca contains two recent works: Ítaca, viaje para un flautista, a 40-minute-long collection of nine solo pieces inspired by Homeric poetry and [Hexagram 57] a circular breathing tour de force for solo prepared flute.
"Ítaca successfully operates on the cutting edge of virtuoso improvisation and extended techniques while anchored in the framework of ancient epic poetry. Wilfrido Terrazas continues to push the envelope for state-of-the-art contemporary flute performance." - Paul Muller of Sequenza 21
