Wiser: The Scientific Roots of Wisdom, Compassion, and What Makes Us Good

Wiser: The Scientific Roots of Wisdom, Compassion, and What Makes Us Good

For over two decades, Dilip Jeste, MD, Senior Associate Dean for Healthy Aging and Senior Care, Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry and Neurosciences, and Director, Center for Healthy Aging at UC San Diego, has led the search for the biological and cognitive roots of wisdom. In this talk, Dr. Jeste reflects on the emerging field of the neurobiology of wisdom, its promise to help alleviate the modern epidemics of loneliness, suicide, and addiction, and ways to nurture and grow this complex trait.

Dr. Jeste's main areas of research include schizophrenia, neuropsychiatric interventions, and successful aging. He has published 14 books, including his most recent book titled “Wiser: The Scientific Roots of Wisdom, Compassion, and What Makes Us Good” which was recently chosen by Next Big Idea Club as one of the “8 Must-Read Books of Winter 2021.” Learn more at jeste.ucsd.edu
